From Running Behind Time
What was first a Queen tribute band, Backfoot began working on their own material once they’d established a comradery as a group. In the way that band members uniquely gel once they’ve been playing together for some time, the fresh and original sound of Backfoot began to develop. Taking inspiration from their early work playing Queen songs and finding directions with Hungarian musicians, the debut album Running Behind Time looks like it’s going to open a door into more than one set of fans. With a multinational flare involving Irish drumming talent Damien Dockery and Armenian songsmith David Zalinian, they already stand astride the continent.
The track begins with an upbeat funky riff, jam packed with splashy drumming. Melodic lines swagger over the rhythms in warm and listenable bursts. Music for wearing stylish hats perhaps, it’s got a summertime glow to it that could last all year around. Nothing like warming up the mind with sunny and beatific compositions. Lush guitar work sings over the top of dancing piano keys in soaring melodious style, while all the time the pulse of the jazz funk rhythm pushes on.
